Geriatricians have embraced the term “geriatric syndrome”, using it extensively to highlight the unique features of common health conditions in the elderly. Geriatric syndromes, such as delirium, falls, incontinence, and frailty, are highly prevalent, multifactorial, and associated with substantial morbidity and poor outcomes.

Learning Objectives:
  1. Identify risk factors for geriatric syndromes
  2. Discuss how polypharmacy contributes to geriatric syndrome
  3. Analyze how pharmacists can combat polypharmacy to help prevent geriatric syndrome
  4. Evaluate how electronic health records (EHR) can impact diagnosing geriatric syndrome

This session is geared towards clinicians of all ages and at all practice sites who find it difficult to balance their day-to-day work while staying up to date with new and ever-changing guidelines and medical literature. This one-hour session will offer tips, tricks and tools to help the busy clinician identify and implement a variety of “new school” and “old school” strategies to remain up to date with literature, guidelines and media.

Learning Objectives:
  1. Review practical and trustworthy resources for literature and guideline summaries
  2. Recognize the role of social media in identifying and sharing medical information (and verify legitimacy!)
  3. Use layered learning and thoughtfully crafted assignments for residents and students as a means of staying up to date
  4. Create an individualized plan for staying up to date that can be integrated into your day-to-day

Fundamentals of Consultant Pharmacy will introduce student pharmacists to the various areas of consultant pharmacy practice both inside and outside of long term post-acute care (LTPAC). This quick overview covers the ins and outs of different practice settings, what is required to be a consultant pharmacist, and some of the challenges encountered in the typical day of a consultant pharmacist. Interested but not sure what a consultant does? Listen in to learn about the rewarding experiences to be gained in this ever-changing, cutting-edge slice of pharmacy practice.

Does the idea of giving a presentation during a (residency) interview scare you to death? Do you know what to expect? Do you know what the interviewers are expecting of you? This workshop will provide you with helpful tips and suggestions for creating a presentation that will showcase your strengths during an interview. Not interviewing? This workshop will also help those who want to better craft a presentation in any setting.

General residency application requirements and the timeline for applying will be reviewed. After the session, you will feel inspired, motivated and ready to become an exceptional residency candidate!

The Arnold S. Feldman Memorial Senior Care Pharmacy Scholarship Program and donations from professionals in the field provide students the opportunity to attend the ASCP Annual Meeting and Residency Showcase program at no charge. 

Interested students must complete this application by September 15, 2021 at 11:59 pm ET. Notifications will be sent to awardees in early September. Incomplete or late evaluations will not be considered.

Student Meet-up Events

Student Meet-up Events give you a chance to meet and make connections with students across the country! These are student-run informal events for all student attendees.

NOV 6, 11am-12pm: Student Volleyball Game
Set, shoot, and block with friends and colleagues on the resort's sand volleyball court. All are welcome!


All students are invited to attend the annual ASCP student trivia competition, GeriParty!

Students from across the country will compete live in this trivia night style battle of wits and knowledge. Topics range from geriatric pharmacotherapy to current events and everything in between. Dress to support your school with your alma mater pride or come ready to celebrate at the Beach Ball right after! All members are welcome to cheer on the students during this fun, educational event.
