Antimicrobial and Psychoactive Medication Stewardship in Older Adults: Responsibilities of Senior Care and Consultant Pharmacists

The job of supervising or taking care of something is Stewardship. The focus from CMS in medication management over the past 5 years, outside of the pandemic, has been antimicrobial and psychoactive medication stewardship. Accelerated by the pandemic, the importance of the pharmacist and their role in managing medication use has grown in older adults.  With the staffing struggle and the emphasis on undoing what may have been done during the Covid-19 restrictions, the pharmacist finds themselves with enhanced responsibilities to curb inappropriate medication use and document and ensure the safety and efficacy of appropriate medication use. This workshop will discuss recent trends in regulatory actions and the best practices pharmacists have developed to address them. Advance your practice with the latest approaches to these core responsibilities.
